Audition Location: Ryerson University, 122 Bond St., Toronto

Rate: Non-paying student film. Actors will receive a copy of the finished film. Meals, and beverages will be provided for the shoot days.

SYNOPSIS:

Race to the Show is a short comedy about bickering parents who are late to their son's school play. Meanwhile, their son, the lead in this absurd, prison-set production, struggles onstage as he must deal with the disappointment of his parents' absence and the uncontrollable urge to urinate.

Character Breakdowns:

1. (Lead) DANNY Male 7-12: Caucasian. Danny is a sweetheart whose only desire is for his parents to come watch him perform in the school play. This, and he really has to pee.

2. (Principal) APRIL Female 28-40: Caucasian. April is Danny's mother and Frank's wife. She is a little bossy but means well. Her contradictions lead to comical moments between her and her husband.

3. (Principal) FRANK Male 28-40: Caucasian. Frank is Danny's father and April's husband. He is carefree and easygoing but clings to his independence which gets him in trouble with his wife.

4. MISS O’NEILL Female 28-40. Miss O'Neill is an elementary school teacher who is helping her students put on a play.

5. OWEN Male 7-12. Owen is Danny's antagonist in their school play.

6. CHARLIE Male 7-12. Charlie is a background extra in the school play who must pretend to be passed out but is not very good at it. No speaking lines.

7. AUDIENCE MEMBERS Male/Female 30-60. Meant to play audience members in a school play. No speaking roles.
